RIDE THE THUNDER

August 20th - October 31st

The Red Lion Inn and the Norman Rockwell Museum are co-presenting the exhibit, Ride the Thunder, curated by exhibit co-producer, Michael Cash. Set to open on August 19, 2023, Ride the Thunder explores the iconic artworks of British Illustrator Ralph Steadman alongside the groundbreaking literary works of prolific writer Hunter S. Thompson, including never seen pieces.

The exhibition showcases pieces from “The Kentucky Derby,” the seminal article that resulted from Steadman and Thompson’s Louisville experience at the Kentucky Derby, alongside “Fear and Loathing,” a psychedelic journey to the heart of the American dream and what is generally considered the epitome of Gonzo Journalism. A collection of Steadman and Thompson’s personal fax exchanges over the span of fifteen years will offer a glimpse into their long friendship. Original and never-before-seen artwork include brand-new, meticulously crafted portraits of cultural icons Post Malone and Bob Dylan, which serve as a testament to Gonzo’s pervasive influence on the modern rhythm of music and art.

Michael Cash: Producer and Creative Director Michael Cash is the visionary behind Ride the Thunder, whose passion brings purpose by celebrating the artistic bond shared between Steadman and Thompson and highlighting their contributions to American art and literature. Cash’s diverse background allows him to connect with artists and musicians of all genres, including his work with a few of the biggest names in the music industry including Jack Harlow, Post Malone, and Bob Dylan. Richard Post, father of musician Post Malone and loyal guest of The Red Lion Inn, and Bobby Kennedy III, American lawyer, activist, entrepreneur, and filmmaker are co-producers alongside Cash.

Location: The exhibition will be held on the second-floor hallway at The Red Lion Inn and will become an immersive experience, transporting visitors into the world of the artists.
