Spend a night in a famous sculptor's studio!

Picture yourself driving down a pretty country road, past charming nineteenth-century homes and gently rolling fields, to reach the secluded cottage of one of America’s most renowned sculptors. Daniel Chester French is best known for sculpting the famous seated Lincoln in Washington's Lincoln Memorial and The Minuteman in Concord, Massachusetts. Historic Meadowlark, located a scenic three miles from the Inn, was once French’s "Little Studio" – a charming, rustic bungalow situated in a grove of maple and hemlock trees.

French built his small studio just a short walk from Chesterwood, the estate where he crafted his most famous work. Guests are able to enjoy the quiet seclusion that Meadowlark offers, the perfect retreat in the woods for guests seeking solitude and to commune with Nature. Please note that Meadowlark is located in the fields and woods of the bucolic Berkshires in a rustic setting complete with the sights, sounds and smells of nature, and even wildlife. It may not appeal to the masses, but a wonderful experience awaits more adventurous types!

The living room retains the spacious, lofty quality of an artist's atelier and opens onto a deck with unsurpassed views of the Berkshire Hills. There are two bedrooms—one upstairs and one on the first floor—a small separate kitchen and one bathroom. For those who wish to enjoy the simplicity of a rural escape without missing modern conveniences, the cottage does have air conditioning, a dishwasher, cable TV and free WiFi!

A breakfast basket is delivered each morning and housekeeping service is included, along with access to Chesterwood’s museum and grounds (including the celebrated annual exhibition, Contemporary Sculpture at Chesterwood) for the entire length of stay. Meadowlark has been renovated and made available to guests of The Red Lion Inn through a unique collaboration between the Inn and Chesterwood's owner, The National Trust for Historic Preservation. Meadowlark is available May through October. For more information on Chesterwood, please go to www.chesterwood.org.
